She then went to Meharry Medical College for postgraduate studies in Internal Medicine, and later to Georgetown University where she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Medical Oncology (1981). She was director of Medical Oncology at David Grant United States Air Force Medical Center, Fairfield, California.
